Fees for using two of the most common suffixes for Internet addresses are going up for a second consecutive year.

VeriSign Inc., the company that keeps the master list of domain names ending in “.com” and “.net,” said that effective Oct. 1, the annual fee for “.com” names will go up 7 percent to $6.86 and the “.net” fee will increase 10 percent to $4.23.

The fees are what VeriSign charges companies that sell domain names on its behalf, and those charges are generally incorporated into the prices that companies, groups and individuals ultimately pay to register names.

VeriSign could make up to $37 million a year from the increase, with some 75 million “.com” names and 11 million “.net” names in use. The price hike, however, applies only at renewal and to new registrations, and many resellers offer discounts on multiyear deals.

VeriSign recently announced plans to further improve security and increase capacity for the servers that keep track of “.com” and “.net” names. Computers from around the world check them continually to find out how to reach “.com” and “.net” Web sites and pass along e-mail.

The price hike, disclosed in a letter to the Internet’s key oversight agency, does not require any regulatory approval.

Have you played in a poker tournament?

Have you ever watched a poker tournament?

In every poker game there is a winner and there is a loser, but what separates the two isn’t just luck, it’s strategy. And to take it one step further, the same techniques you use in a poker tournament can be used to succeed in life.

Here’s what you will find in this article at quicksprout.com, it talks about what the author learned from playing poker:

Put on your poker face – you never want others to know what you are thinking. Just like in poker, the expressions on your face can give away your thoughts. In the real world if you seem desperate you are less likely to succeed, but if you seem confident you are more likely to succeed.

Look for tell signs – people unknowingly do things that give away what they’re thinking. Although you don’t want others to know what you are thinking, you want to study your opponents so you can figure out what they are thinking. By doing this you will have a better understanding of how to react to their actions so that you can benefit from them.

Place smart bets – in poker, if you have a shitty hand you probably want to fold. And if you have a royal flush you should go all in. The same goes in life because if the cards you are dealt suck, then you probably want to quit and call it a day.

Use your head – it may be difficult to count cards, but it isn’t difficult to learn from your mistakes. Don’t forget about the mistakes you made in the past or else you may make them again.

Although the tips mentioned above will help you succeed in life, there is nothing like firsthand experience. So to help you with the your poker skills I Can Has Cheezburger and I are doing a contest to help you succeed in life. One person will win a two-night trip to Las Vegas with $500 in spending cash and free airfare for 2 individuals to and from Las Vegas in the continental US.

At the quicksprout.com website you will find another fine article talking about his experience as a CEO, here’s a short quote from his article:

“…Roughly two years ago I was known in the Internet marketing space as a search engine optimization (SEO) expert. There were hundreds of individuals who were also SEO experts at this time and many of them were even better than me. Because of this, I figured that if I wanted to succeed in the Internet marketing space I would have to change the public’s perception of me. During this time there weren’t too many social media experts so I decided to concentrate on that niche when it came to speaking at conferences and blogging. To make a long story short, within 2 years the perception that the public had on my company and me changed for the better. Many people see me as a social media expert now and when companies are looking for that service, in many cases they turn to me because I branded myself in this way…”

Read the complete article and learn from his experience!

Overall quicksprout is a nice place for you to learn a thing or two from Neil Patel’s experience.

Site Classification: 5 (form 0 to 5)

HotelReservations is an American-based online hotel reservations portal, where you can book a variety of accommodations: hotels, motels, B&Bs and condos located in nearly all countries worldwide for your next trip.

Their database is quite extensive so you have many places from which to choose. Secondary to hotel reservations, are vacation packages which may include hotel plus car rentals and flight reservations. The hotel system however, seems to be the focused activity here.Upon launching the site, I wanted to determine out how user-friendly the online experience was, so I did several different searches and queries, based on some trips I have coming up.User experience is self-explanatory and navigation is fairly easy for most internet users; the interface is clean and clearly understandable. There’s a link per hotel where you can open up a street map with the location of the hotel, which is very handy.

Different issues emerged as well when looking for Paris hotels. I could conveniently sort the entire list by quality, price, alphabetical order and by special offers for Paris but I wasn’t able to sort a smaller list of the hotels located within a certain arrondissement (district), which is a bit inconvenient.

HotelReservations’ prices are very competitive, some are identical to what other portals offer. That is good, as I did not see much difference in price with discount portals. Probably the best thing about about this website and their prices is: if see a lower price elsewhere online for the same place and the same dates as your reservations at HotelReservations, they will reimburse you the difference or simply cancel your reservation without penalty so that you may go with the lower agent.Another powerful point about HotelReservations is that you actually have an option to speak with a real human being via telephone.

Really! I know that sounds weird but do you realize how increasingly difficult it is to find companies with human customer support? They have a toll-free number for North America and Europe, and they have another world-wide number to call. The customer service is really exceptional, very professional, pleasant and extremely efficient.

Overall, HotelReservations is a good reservations portal, having a large database of hotels around the world. Their advantage to similar sites is that they offer different types of accommodations, not simply hotels. On the other hand, as a site of this kind, I find that a rating system for actual reviews is loudly lacking. When there are user comments and critiques or praises about a particular hotel where I might be interested in staying, I would love to see the feedback of other people who’ve stayed there.
